Petrobras to start drilling near the mouth of the Amazon in 2024
12 October 2023
The Brazilian state-owned company Petrobras, which has not yet received a drilling permit, is already planning to conduct exploratory drilling in the Amazon rainforest next year.
Petrobras considers this region along the coast of Amapa State to be the most promising for oil and gas exploration. Petrobras does not yet have permission from the Environmental Protection Agency (Ibama) to explore the area, but the executive director assures that the company will receive all the documents and start drilling in the first half of 2024.
The area targeted by the Brazilian corporation is a section of deep- and ultra-deep-water deposits with a length of approximately 2,200 km along the northern and northeastern coast of the country.
