Sinopec has completed drilling of the deepest geothermal well in China

Chinese energy company Sinopec has successfully completed drilling of the country’s deepest geothermal exploration well with a depth of 5.2 thousand meters. The facility is located in Haikou City, the administrative center of Hainan Province.

The temperature in the well reaches 188 °C, and geothermal resources are found in several layers. According to experts, up to 1.4 billion tons of conventional fuel are deposited on an area of 50 square kilometers around Haikou.

The project has become an important step in the development of geological exploration in southern China and will contribute to the promotion of a green economy and low-carbon technologies in Hainan.
