Equinor Discovers New Reserves in the North Sea

25 August 2025

Norwegian energy company Equinor, together with its partners, announced the discovery of new oil and gas reserves in the North Sea. The find was made in the Fram area, located nine kilometers north of the Troll field, one of the key assets of the Norwegian oil and gas industry.

The new discovery has been given the preliminary name F-South. According to the company’s estimates, the resource volume ranges between 0.1 and 1.1 million cubic meters of oil equivalent, including both oil and natural gas.

The proximity of the find to existing Troll field infrastructure, including platforms and pipelines, could shorten the timeline and reduce the cost of bringing the field into production. The discovery confirms the continued potential of the North Sea as an oil and gas basin, despite decades of development in the region.
