Montney Basin Drives Canadian Natural Gas Production Growth
10 July 2026
Producers in Western Canada’s Montney formation continued to drive the country’s natural gas growth through the middle of 2026, with the country’s top operators now accounting for the large majority of national gas volumes as overall production surpassed 20 billion cubic feet per day.
Industry watchers noted a wave of new junior producers emerging in the region, drawn by strong well results and continued mergers and acquisitions activity, as companies positioned themselves to benefit from rising LNG export demand.
