ChinOil implements a scientific project “Cognitive geologist”
This is one of the company’s latest digital projects.
It helps to optimize the processing of geophysical information and geological data received from field operations and the final result of the geological survey.
The main task of the “cognitive geologist” is to integrate various data obtained at all stages of geological prospecting, including seismic, exploratory drilling, coring, aerial photography, etc. All information comes for processing in a single database. With the help of machine learning and intelligence methods, we actually replace a large number of working models for each type of information by one metamodel, which allows us at any moment of time to obtain objective knowledge about the degree of prospectivity of a particular exploration area.
Its scope covers any exploration project which needs geophysical survey, prospecting well drilling and identification of potentially oil and gas bearing areas for the most efficient production.
Thus, the function of the “Cognitive Geologist” is to maximize exploration of potential mining regions within the shortest possible time. Until now, geological exploration projects took on average from 3 to 5 years. The time mostly was spent for processing and analysis of the received materials.
Automated process of data interpretation helps to reduce field survey period to six–twelve months maximum.
Significant savings are reached due to access to previously collected seismic data from nearby deposits or neighboring regions with similar conditions. Then, using the same methods of machine learning, such evaluation criteria are chosen that automatically select the most promising areas from the geophysical information block.
