The Nargis-1 well has discovered about 61 m of Miocene and Oligocene age gas sands.

On January 15, 2023, Italian Eni announced the discovery of a new gas field in the Nargis shelf concession, in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, offshore Egypt. The Nargis-1 exploration well was drilled at a depth of 309 m by the Stena Forth drilling vessel.

Nargis-1 found about 61 m of Miocene and Oligocene age gas sandstone. The deposit can be developed using proximity to existing Eni sites.

The Egyptian state-owned EGAS said the amount of reserves in the well is being assessed and it will work with Chevron and other partners to start production as soon as possible.
