Ashgabat to increase gas supplies to Iran

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov said that the country can significantly increase swap gas supplies through Iran.

He clarified that Ashgabat and Tehran are already negotiating on this issue.

Turkmenistan sends its gas through Iran to Azerbaijan. In August, these supplies were kept at the level of 7-7.5 million cubic meters of gas per day.

However, in November, the country agreed to export 9 billion cubic meters. m to Iraq via the Iranian GTS. At the same time, Turkmen gas does not compete with Iranian gas, since it comes to a completely different region of the country, which itself needs additional supplies of energy resources.

Recall that currently the main export channel of Ashgabat is China. However, the country has been looking for exits to other promising markets for a long time. In particular, the project of laying the TAPI gas pipeline (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) is supported. Kabul is even going to guarantee the safety of the gas pipeline on its territory.
