China is towing the country’s first floating wind farm to the installation site on the high seas
The platform will be installed at a field located 136 km from the coast of Wenchang in Hainan Province in southern China.
The Chinese company CNOOC has started towing the Guanlian offshore wind power platform to the place of operation. This was reported by the press service of the Global Energy Association.
The platform will be installed at a field located 136 km off the coast of Wenchang in Hainan Province in southern China. The station consists of three side and one central column, on which a wind generator with a capacity of 7.25 MW will be installed. The height of the installation is 35 m, and the weight is about 4 thousand tons. This is the first wind farm in China operating in the open sea.
After installation, it will generate 22 million kWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to the annual consumption of 30 thousand people. Electricity will be supplied to oil and gas production facilities via underwater cables, which will save 10 billion m3 of gas per year and reduce greenhouse emissions by 22 thousand tons per year.
