Global LNG Exports Set a New Record in 2025
Global exports of liquefied natural gas grew by approximately 4 percent in 2025, reaching 429 million tonnes. This is the largest annual increase since 2022. The growth was driven mainly by new projects in North America, including Canada’s LNG Canada and the Plaquemines facility in the United States.
The United States exported more than 100 million tonnes of LNG in a single year for the first time in its history, cementing its position as the world’s largest supplier of the fuel. The rising volumes are already putting pressure on prices and increasing demand for LNG carriers. Freight rates in the Atlantic reached a nearly two year high in November.
Analysts expect supply to expand further between 2026 and 2030 as new export plants come online in the United States and Qatar launches its North Field expansion project.
