Iran is interested in Africa
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is preparing for a visit.
According to the head of the Department of African Countries of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Valiullah Mohammadi, President Ebrahim Raisi will visit several African states in the next six months. The dates of the trip are agreed. Meetings of bilateral commissions with Burundi, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Tanzania and South Africa are also expected this year.
According to the director of the department, this year “the volume of trade between Iran and African countries will grow to $2 billion.” The largest trading partner on the continent is Nigeria, whose trade turnover has increased from $18 to $130 million over the past two years. Nasarbadi also noted that last year the Islamic Republic established trade development centers in Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Tanzania and Uganda.
In March of this year, Tehran hosted the First Summit on Iran’s scientific and economic cooperation with West African countries, the participants of which discussed the increase in investment, the development of transport links, the use of Iranian technologies, cooperation in the field of mining and agriculture, the removal of barriers to trade and mutual reduction of customs duties.
