The bowels of the Chinese province of Sichuan reveal shale gas reserves: a new ultra-deep field contains 133 billion cubic meters of gas.

Chinese oil and gas company Sinopec announced the discovery of a new shale gas field, which belongs to the category of ultra-deep.

The field was named Hexingchang, its proven reserves are estimated at 133 billion cubic meters. The new asset has become the largest ultra-deep shale deposit in China.

The discovery was made in Sichuan Province, where gas reserves had previously been discovered. So, in November last year, Sinopec announced the discovery of a shale blue fuel deposit with a potential of 146 billion cubic meters in the Sichuan region.

In recent years, China has been focusing on the exploration of deep hydrocarbons, hoping that their development will increase the energy security of the state. But for the development of deep-lying deposits (5 km and below), new breakthrough technologies are needed.
