The Chinese shipyard will build two bunkering tankers for Fratelli Cosulich

12 July 2024

Fratelli Cosulich Group has signed a contract with the Chinese shipbuilding company Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipbuilding for the construction of two bunker tankers (type IMO-2) with a deadweight of 7.9 thousand tons. The contract includes an option to build two more similar tankers. The first tanker will be delivered in the first half of 2026.

The tankers will carry various types of bunker fuels, including fuel oil, biofuels and methanol. After upgrading the engines and fuel system, ships will be able to use methanol as fuel.

Currently, the group operates two LNG bunkering vessels (Alice Cosulich and Paolina Cosulich) and the chemical bunkering carrier Marta Cosulich, which supplies biofuels and methanol. Next year, the delivery of the second IMO-2 chemical tanker, the first in the company’s methanol-powered fleet, is expected.

Fratelli Cosulich, founded in 1857 and managed by the seventh generation of the Kosulich family, is a major player in the maritime shipping and logistics market. The company operates in 15 business segments through 133 companies in 27 countries in Asia, Europe and America. Since 1969, the group has been engaged in the physical supply of marine fuel in the Singapore Bay.
