Venezuela may start gas supplies to Colombia
Colombia evaluates Venezuela’s proposal for the supply of pipeline gas.
The Colombian state-owned company Ecopetrol is considering a proposal from the Venezuelan state-owned company PDVSA to export gas to Colombia from December next year.
During the visit of Colombian President Gustavo Petro to Venezuela last weekend, he said that Ecopetrol is very likely to start working together with PDVSA. The President of Colombia did not provide any more details on the joint project.
The cooperation options proposed by PDVSA include gas supplies via the Antonio Ricaurte pipeline, Reuters reports.
Colombian Energy Minister Andres Camacho said that imports from Venezuela are beneficial for the country due to the low cost of gas compared to imported volumes from other suppliers.
Last month, the United States eased sanctions against Venezuela, and Colombia’s contract with PDVSA from 2007 also fell into the lifted sanctions.
